Dorma Bedding find of the week.

Dorma Kalamkari

Kalamkari is an ancient craft of painted and printed cloths and fabrics. It gets its name from the word Kalam which means Pen, and Kari meaning work, so you end up with literally Pen-work.

Kalamkari is painted in several parts of India and Iran. In Andhra Pradesh, both the Masulipatnam and Srikalahasti villages are major centres for Kalamkari painting. Masulipatnam, located in southeast India, 200 miles east of Hyderabad, and Srikalahasti near Tirupati, are the leaders in producing Kalamkari paintings.

Kalamkari is traditionally hand painting but can be block printing with vegetable dyes. Kalamkari art has evolved over the last 3000 years. Techniques of craftsmanship in Kalamkari were handed down within the Kalamkari workers families across generations.

Kalamkari Style

The Dorma Kalamkari style is more suited for the traditional house as it can be seen as a little to busy for the more modern style of bedroom with its clean minimalist looks.

Many also feel that it is better to have just one or two Kalamkari items mixed with some other plainer styles of the same colour as the full Kalamkari set of matching curtains and bedlining can be a little over powering and a little too much for the eyes to take in.

But that said at the end of the day the choice is yours.
